GRAMPIAN Police are advising motorists to travel with extra caution following high winds, with numerous roads across the north-east being affected by fallen trees and other debris.

The Met Office have issued an amber warning, with the risk of further gales and snow across the north-east creating potentially hazardous situations.

The wind is not expected to reach the speed of Thursday’s gusts but drivers may encounter fallen trees or debris on the road with very little warning.

A police spokesman said: "If you are travelling, ensure you and your vehicle are prepared for the conditions you may face.

"Make sure you have sufficient fuel and supplies such as warm clothing, food and water in case you are delayed. Ensure your mobile phone is charged and plan your route and alternative routes.

"Listen to media broadcasts for up-to-date travel information, and visit www.trafficscotland.org."
