PLANS to erect 12 100-metre high turbines at an important Buchan landmark are being opposed by Strichen and District Community Council.
Applicants Muirden Energy want to build them between the summits of Waughton and Mormond hills.
At its latest meeting, the community council decided that it would object to the proposal.
Residents in the area have also formed an action group to fight the plans.
Its spokeswoman said: "Mormond Hill is a very important local landmark in the area.
"Many people are concerned about the impact of such an industrial-scale development on the landscape, the cultural and historical heritage of Buchan and on the natural environment, including wildlife habitats.
"Mormond Hill is also enjoyed by people far and wide, such as walkers and riders, as a local amenity.
"People are also concerned about the potential noise and visual flicker caused by such a large-scale development, in addition to the upheaval and traffic congestion which would be caused as a result of the scheme."
She added that the action group was also concerned about the number of turbines being installed across Aberdeenshire, and considered that a wind farm on top of Mormond Hill "will further damage a landscape that is already becoming overburdened with turbines".
The closing date for the public to make representations on the application is Thursday, December 15.
