ALLY MacLeod has resigned as manager of Deveronvale, citing a number of reasons for his decision, among them his ongoing fight with leukaemia.

MacLeod and his assistant, Craig Stratton, tendered their resignations on Saturday night after the 4-1 defeat at the hands of Inverurie Locos at Princess Royal Park.

MacLeod outlined the manner with which the team lost on Saturday, squad selection problems and a relapse of leukaemia in June were all factors in his departure.

He told the ‘Banffshire Journal’: “I have been thinking about resigning for a number of weeks.

“I took the job 10 months after I had a bone marrow transplant to treat leukaemia, and in hindsight I shouldn’t have done that.

MacLeod said that he should have left in June when the leukaemia returned.

He added: “The leukaemia relapsed in June, and that was a sign that I should have walked away then.

“I will have to have another bone marrow transplant in future.

“I feel my decision is the right thing to do, and Craig has also resigned.

“I wish the club all the best in the future.”
