BUDDING Alvah artist Katy Rewston reckons meeting Hobbits brings you good luck.

It certainly did her no harm when she met Lord of the Rings actor Billy Boyd while she was en route south of the border to a prestigious art competition.

The follow day she won the British birds category in the BBC wildlife artist of the year contest.

"Winning was a complete surprise, and it has done wonders for my confidence to pursue my dream of becoming a full-time wildlife artist," Katy (25) told the ‘Banffshire Journal’.

"I met Billy Boyd on my train journey to take my entry to the competition in Winchester.

"I decided to ask him for his autograph, and we got chatting about my work. I showed him examples and he said it was lovely and wished me good luck.

"So maybe the good wishes of a Hobbit work a magic. He was a really nice guy."

Katy lives with her parents, Andrew and Carole, at Kirkton of Alvah.
