TOP competitors will compete for more than £3,500 in prize money at the Cornhill Highland Games on Saturday.

Some of the best heavy men in the country will do battle in the throwing events, while track athletes contest a range of running and jumping events.

Spectators, under the guidance of renown compere Robbie Shepherd MBE, will also be able to enjoy a packed programme including highland dancing, pipe bands and the tug o’ war, and there will be the usual top table sale in the marquee as well as numerous stalls and children’s entertainment.

There will once again be children’s races on the track, and the traditional road races for both youngsters and adults.

The family fun begins at 11am at Cornhill Playing Field, and there is a fully licensed bar all day. The 42nd Great Knock Hill Race will start at 5pm.

Entry for the games is £6 adults and £2 children and OAPs.

The famous evening disco in the marquee is a ticket-only event for over-18s.

Tickets, price £10, are available at the games field until 11pm on Saturday, or until Friday evening from: Costcutters, Macduff; Keystore, Banff; Ewens of Cornhill showroom, Cornhill; Co-op, Aberchirder; Portsoy Ice Cream Shop; I&S Smith, Turriff; Strathisla Cafe, Keith; and Forbes Raeburn Butchers Huntly.

There is limited transport at 1am to Whitehills, Banff and Macduff.
