Fines for too much rubbish

HOUSEHOLDERS in Banffshire could face court fines of up to £1,000 as part of tougher new recycling measures.

Those leaving too much rubbish in their bins for collection may also be hit with fixed penalty notices of £50.

However, Aberdeenshire Council has stressed that the use of courts would be "a last resort" for persistent offenders as it endeavours to meet Scottish Government targets.

Those targets will mean that residents will have to DOUBLE the amount of rubbish they recycle to 70% by 2025.
