THE fight to ‘Save Tarlair’ is officially under way.
A campaign to see Macduff’s famous outdoor swimming pool restored to something like its former glory dipped its first toe in the water last week.
More than 70 people took the trouble to attend a public meeting at the Banff Springs Hotel last Thursday evening aimed at protecting the category A-listed complex and bringing it back it life as a recreational area.
Tarlair has deteriorated badly since its closure in 1995, and while Aberdeenshire Council has an obligation to preserve it because of its listed status, nothing has been done in recent years despite the local authority spending more than £100,000 on consultants.
Macduff man Dod Chalmers was one of the organisers of last week’s meeting following a dramatic response to a Facebook campaign which saw thousands of people express a desire to ‘Save Tarlair’.
After being nominated and accepted as the new chairman of the ‘Save Tarlair Campaign’, Mr Chalmers told the Banffshire Journal: “I’m delighted that so many people came along to the Banff Springs to give their support.
