A CELEBRATION of the best that Banffshire tourism has to offer will take place next week.

The event will also act as a prelude to the tourism year ahead for locals and visitors.

The Banffshire Coast Tourism Partnership is hosting an informal tourism event on Wednesday, February 25, at the Station Hotel in Portsoy from 4.30-7pm.

Tourism businesses, event organisers and local residents are invited to attend.

Roger Goodyear, chair of the partnership, said: “Tourism businesses will be able to promote what they do, get information about a wide range of initiatives, all designed to increase visitor numbers and income, and pick up the leaflets they need for the season – some hot off the press.

“Event organisers will hear about the opportunities for free promotion across both the Banffshire Coast and Aberdeenshire, and for local residents it’s an ideal opportunity to find out all that is going on.”

The event will take the form of a “mini-exhibition” with people able to come for as long or as short a time as they wish.

Tourism businesses will be on hand to give out leaflets, chat about what they do, and identify ways to work more closely with other tourism businesses. Event organisers will learn how to promote their events – for free – on the Partnership’s events calendar and across Aberdeenshire on Events North East.

Information will also be available about the forthcoming Cycling and Activities on the Coast campaigns which include exciting, and unique, elements – all designed to promote the great range of outdoor (and indoor) activities on offer along the Banffshire coastline.

A wide range of printed material from both Banffshire Coast and VisitScotland will be available, as well as information about the growing list of 2015 initiatives including WorldHost Customer Service training, Taste our Best Food initiative and the 2015 Year of Food and Drink marketing campaign.

Mr Goodyear added: “This event is all about helping tourism businesses to promote themselves, share information, and learn about initiatives designed to bring them benefits.

“The Banffshire Coast area is achieving a much greater profile, and we are very grateful for the support we receive from our funders, other tourism agencies including VisitAberdeen and VisitScotland, and all of our members – the number having now risen to a record high of 105.”

Following last year’s very successful promotional campaigns – Harbours, The Traditional Seaside Holiday, Shopping, and Food and Drink, Mr Goodyear said the partnership is very excited about the Cycling and Activities on the Coast campaigns, which will be run with tourism colleagues in Moray, Speyside and Fraserburgh.

He said: “They are totally different to anything we have done before – and will certainly be attention-grabbing.”

Next Wednesday’s event is free to attend, but businesses are asked to register their attendance by e-mailing Zillah Jamieson on zillah@banffshirecoast.com or phoning her on 07831 768349.
