MYSTERY still surrounds the fate of a former Banff man who has been missing at sea for 11 weeks.

Nothing has been heard of yachtsman Sandy Taylor (61) - a former owner of the Pennan Inn and Banff’s Swordanes Hotel - since he set sail on a friend’s 32ft yacht from Puerto Calero in Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

In recent days, his partner of the past four years Christine Barrie (52), from Manchester, has made an emotional plea begging him to get in touch.

She told national newspapers: "Please call. I just want to know you are safe."

She added: "I’m at my wits’ end with worry. It’s totally out of character for Sandy to disappar like this and all I can think is that he has had some sort of accident out at sea."
