A real life detective story involving Turriff policemen has lead to an appeal to track down relatives.

Now living in Tilshead in Wiltshire, retired police superintendent George Murray takes up the case: “As a native of Turriff who left Aberdeenshire in 1966 to join the police in Somerset,I have come across some interesting information about a Turriff man Alexander Bruce.

“He was born in Turriff in 1866 and joined the Bristol Constabulary on 2/2/1817, his previous occupation being a farm labourer.

“He progressed through the ranks being promoted to chief superintendent in March 1919.

“He retired in December 1922 and died in Bristol on July 21, 1931.

“I wonder if he has any family still living in the area?".
