Last Sunday saw some of the Ellon athletes back in action on the track after a long absence due to the pandemic restrictions.

Aberdeen Sports Village played host to around 200 athletes competing in track and field events, most competing for the first time in over a year, and some competing for the first time ever.

Club spokeswoman Emma Dawson said: "To see so many personal bests smashed, and excellent first time achievements was an absolute delight to both athletes and coaches alike.

"With so much time passing since the last competition, many of the athletes had moved into different age groups, which brought with it tougher challenges like a longer hurdles race for Lily Nicholls, who achieved an excellent 14.03 seconds.

"The male throwers in the team also saw an increase in weight reflected in their move in age groups.

"11-year-old Cain Burton moved into under 13 boys and even with a heavier shot putt managed to increase his PB to 5m 46cm, and with Graeme Small's heavier Discus he was rewarded with a new PB of 25m.58cm

"First time competitors for the club put in amazing performances too; Aimee Tawse and Sophie Thompson in their 800m, Megan Lieper in her 200m and the two youngest competitors Charlotte Gibson aged 10 and nine-year-old Alfie Burton put in sterling performances in their 200m races against older and more experienced athletes.

"The whole team performed like they had never been away from competition.

"Even the two senior representatives from Ellon AC Nicola McDonald and Emma Dawson, throwing discus and shot putt respectively, managed to turn in decent performances and happily, stay injury free."
