Fyvie got off to a winning start in their first game back after a lengthy lay off claiming a 3-2 win over premier division side Bervie Caledonian.

Last week also saw the official signing off of Fyvie's move to the Aberdeenshire Amateur Football Association and confirmation for the team of two new signings

Joining the ranks are Lewis Neil from Tarves who finished top scorer for New Deer last season and Ross Strath who joins from Turriff United after coming through the youth system at Turriff and Deveronvale with loan spells at Glentanar and Whitehills.

It was Fyvie’s 50th game since re-forming as a team in 2018 and the team showed the progress made on the park with a impressive performance considering the changes made and length of time out.

The home side took the lead on 10 minutes when a ball was played through wide to Tommy Gillan who cut back past the defender and dinked the ball to the back post where debutant Ross Strath took a touch and beat the defender with some fantastic footwork before being fouled in the box.

Brad Martin stepped up and smashed the ball into the net.

Fyvie went two up ten minutes later when new signing Sam Tateson sent a great ball over the top for Jamie Marshall who hit a composed side footed volley underneath the goalkeeper.

Bervie Caledonian pulled one back after a foul in the penalty box resulting in a penalty.

The Bervie player stepping up and coolly slotting the ball past Mike McKinnon.

Lewis Neil was brought on to replace Jamie Marshall, David Stephen for Matthew Stewart, Max Dawson for Sam Tateson and Kev Pirie for Matthew Rennie as Fyvie made several changes.

They were awarded another penalty on the 50th minute when Tommy Gillan chased down a ball and was brought down by the goalkeeper, Brad once again stepping up to hit home a very good penalty.

Fyvie brought on Gary Massie to replace Darren Chapman, Mikey Third for Tommy Gillan and Lewis Chalmers for Ross Hosie.

Bervie got their second through a spectacular hit by the Bervie player who found himself in space in the box and unleashed a shot into the Fyvie goal.
