INVERURIE Locos boss Andy Low said his team provided the perfect reaction after their Aberdeenshire Shield disappointment.

The Railwaymen failed to impress against Fraserburgh in last week's final, but they put their anguish behind them by swotting Rothes 5-0 on Saturday to hold second spot in the Highland League table for the time being.

Low knew even prior to kick-off that his players would respond in the right way and said: “I spoke to the guys before the game and told them they needed to channel their disappointment in the right way.

“They didn't do too well in the cup final but they moved on quickly, they couldn't afford not to as Rothes are a good side.

“You could see in the changing rooms before the game that we were right up for it and keen to put a few things right.

“I was delighted with the response we got.

“We had a couple of games [prior] where we haven't had a win now, so you look at the fixtures and think we'll have to be at it to win these games.

“They are tough, tough games against Rothes who are doing well.

“I just thought we were well-deserving of our win, we came out the blocks at the start of the game and killed it in the first half.

“It was as good as a response I could ask for.”

Utility man Calum Dingwall will miss the rest of the campaign after being offered a short-term work opportunity across the Atlantic.

Low has challenged his fringe players to fill the void but admitted he is still looking for ways to bolster his squad after Sam Burnett joined on a permanent deal from Cove Rangers at the weekend.

He added: “Calum is away with his work, he's got a six-month contract in Canada.

“He'll be a big miss, there's no doubt about that.

“He's been consistently our best performer this year, he's played pretty much every game and been outstanding for us.

“We've got others who can step up so it'll give an opportunity to somebody.

“We're working on a few things in the background, I wouldn't say there's anything immediate as I believe there are guys waiting for opportunities.

“We've got Andy Watt and Craig Gill coming back, and a couple of young lads who I wouldn't mind seeing.

“Jamie Michie has been chomping at the bit and has done really well in his last few games.

“We've got plenty options but I am keen to put my own stamp on the team.

“If I can make something happen I will.”
