VIDEO - Dingwall town centre hosts parade of drivers at 2022 Snowman Rally

Dingwall Town Centre was blaring with the sound of engines as it hosted the drivers regroup during the first round of the Scottish Rally Championship.

A total of 91 cars were entered for the rally which took place in Ross-shire yesterday.

The Black Isle Showground at Muir of Ord was the start and finishing point of the rally.

Elgin navigator Daniel Forsyth teamed up with Inverness' Scott MacBeath for his best SRC performance yet, claiming fifth place overall in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.

Two more Elgin co-drivers finished high up the rankings in Subaru Imprezas with Iain Thorburn ninth with Keir Beaton, and John Shepheard in 16th with Michael Renton.

Elgin's 63 Car Club duo John Wink (Huntly) and Neil Shanks (Elgin) ended up in a ditch on stage 3 but were able to resume their race, coming in 23rd overall.

Brian Ross (Elgin) was 32nd in a Ford Escort Mk2 while Sandy and Ian Arbuthnott finished 39th in a Ford Focus STI.

Rothienorman pair Aileen and John Forrest, in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, came in 53rd.

Brake problems meant Scott Mutch and Greg McDonald (Elgin) didn't get off the start line while Aberlour navigator Mike Hendry and Elgin pair Darren McDonald and Sarah Young didn't make it beyond the first stage.

Mike Grant and Graham Kelman (Elgin) rolled on stage one, and Elgin navigator Robert Tonge retired on stage three.

Michael Binnie successfully defended his Snowman title as he claimed victory for the second time in the first round of the Scottish Rally Championship

The Cornhill on Tweed driver, along with Kelso co-driver Claire Mole came from five seconds behind on the final stage to win the rally in 42 minutes in their Mitsubishi Evo 9.

He followed up from his victory in 2020, the last time the rally was held.

They were 19 seconds ahead of Jock Armstrong from Castle Douglas and co-driver Cameron Fair from Hawick in second place driving a Subaru Imprenza and 30 seconds ahead of David Bogie from Dumfries and Kevin Rae from Hawick in a Mini JCW WRC.

Freddie Milne from Aberdeen and co-driver Patrick Walsh from Aberystwyth were leading the rally in the final stage, but finished in fourth place, 40 seconds behind the winner in a Ford Fiesta R5.
