TURRIFF's biggest and best sporting party is back this weekend as some of the darts' most illustrious names prepare to rock the town.

The Bowling Club hosts the ninth Turriff Darts Exhibition on Friday and Saturday, with up to 1200 fans in attendance.

The much-loved carnival of terrific tungsten has grown from humble origins in Cuminestown to an annual event that has the sold out signs going up almost a year in advance with fans flocking from all over Aberdeenshire.

Returning to the oche is Daryl Gurney, the current world number seven who made his debut in Turriff last year and features less than 24 hours after playing in the Premier League in Dublin.

Twice world champion, Adrian 'Jackpot' Lewis is another big name to have been attracted along, as is world number 10 Dave Chisnall.

The BDO are represented by veterans Darryl Fitton and Tony 'Silverback' O'Shea, with MC John Gwynne on the mic as always.

A selection of local players will also get the chance to pit their skills against the stars in one-leg matches

Changes to the professional circuit schedule has left two-time world champion and Scottish favourite Gary Anderson unable to make his bow again, but organiser Fergus Henderson believed that the line-up of stars is still an impressive one.

"We've done well to get who we have", he said.

"Daryl Gurney was really impressed last year and he had no hesitation in agreeing to come back.

"It's a real compliment to the event that players are happy to make the time to come to Turriff.

"There's a different look to the line-up this year as there isn't any local favourite - we've had John Henderson, who is of course from Huntly, in the past, and Gary Anderson has been a regular.

"But with the changes to the PDC calendar and the availability of players, it has had an impact on who we could get.

"We've chosen to go down a different path with the line-up but we're sure the two nights will be just as entertaining and exciting."

"It's testament to the fans that we've never any difficulty shifting tickets, and also to the Bowling Club staff that we always manage to put on such a great event.

"Everybody is really looking forward to it.

"It's great for the town, and local businesses - pubs, hotels and restaurants - can all get a kick from it too."
