A very good week was had by most anglers at Delgatie Trout Fishery as the fish really switched on.

The fish are still taking smaller flies, wet and dries, the best fly of the week being the Daiwl Bach and the best lure of the week was a cats whisker.

A lot of decent bags were being caught , 10 bags of 10 or more fish, for the rest most everybody caught with only eight blanks, and a few bags of one and two.

Overall over 320 fish were caught, by 66 rods excluding the Trout Masters Competition that took place on Saturday.

The evening sessions on Thurs and Friday saw good sport, befitting from the almost perfect fishing weather.

It was also good to see children down the fishery with their mentors, some of them out catching their mentors.

Best fisher of the week was Robbie McPherson who landed four bags of more than 10 fish in four sessions with his largest fish being 15lbs.

The Trout Masters was well attended with 10 competitors, although unfortunately the catch rate dropped off on the day, due to heavy fishing in the previous days, and then the otter put in an appearance putting the fish out into the deeper water.

The competition took place from the bank and owner Vivian Fallon said: "I would like to thank all those who took part, unlike some competitions I have held, all were good humoured, and helped each other landing fish and sharing fly knowledge, a most pleasant day.

"Everyone left with a fishing voucher as a prize for taking part.

"Third place and a voucher for three days fishing went to Neil Scowen, second place and a voucher for two days fishing Delgatie stalwart Al Murray, and taking first place and a voucher for a days fishing was cannie fisherman Peter Cowie, who also gets an opportunity to go to the UK finals at Draycott.

"It was very close between first and second coming down to the time of the first fish caught.

"If your wondering why third place got three days fishing and first only one, well its obvious that more practice is required.

"Well done Peter and thank you for the support and background work you have given to Delgatie throughout the last years."
