BUCKIE goalkeeper Kevin Main is aiming to sign off in style as he targets Highland League glory this season.
The veteran, who turns 40 in March, won back to back league titles between 2010 and 2011 with his hometown club before leaving in 2014. The decorated shot-stopper is now aiming to add one more title before he calls it a day.
Main said: “You know I’m going to be 40 in March. I signed with Buckie because it’s less travelling for me but I’m still really enjoying it.”
“Hopefully I can add one more title. We’re really pushing this year. You see how tight the league is at the top. We’re second but there are five or six teams that can go on and win it this year. We’re just trying to stay in the mix with Fraserburgh and Brechin so we’ll keep pushing.”
Main pushed back his retirement plans this summer after being convinced to sign a a two-year deal by Jags boss Graeme Stewart. However, he admits a decision on continuing for the second year will will be reviewed at the end of the season.
Buckie moved up to second in the league standings on Saturday after Main added another clean sheet to his fine record in a 5-0 win against Lossiemouth.
The Jags keeper admitted he felt a bit of sadness following the victory against the side he began his career with over two decades ago.
“It’s hard for Lossie at the moment,” he said.
“I started playing there about 25 years ago and I stayed with them for about six years. They work hard but if they keep plugging away I’m sure they will rise up the table.
“I remember being battered by Peterhead in my first game but I had really good memories as well. We won two North of Scotland Cups and played some really good football so I have really good memories of my time there.”
