Huntly Football Club bring ‘serial goalscorer’ Andy Hunter back to Christie Park from Highland League rivals Banks o’ Dee

An established Highland League goalscorer has returned to the club he left two years ago.

Andy Hunter has rejoined Huntly from Banks o’ Dee on an 18 month contract.

Manager Colin Charlesworth described the 31-year-old front man as a “serial goalscorer” and is excited to bring him back to Christie Park.

The Black and Golds will now have Hunter, last season’s Highland League top scorer Angus Grant and fellow goal ace Sam Robertson as attackers at the club.

"This is an exciting piece of business and I am delighted the club have been able to make this happen,” said Charlesworth on Huntly’s Facebook page.

“Andy is a serial goalscorer and his Highland League record speaks for itself. I know it was a tough decision for Andy to leave the club previously but I could tell from the first conversation with him he was excited to get back to Safelift Christie Park and pick up where he left off.

“With the firepower we already have here, Andy will only enhance that and hopefully it starts to fire us back up the league.

Ex-Inverurie Locos striker Hunter joined Huntly in 2022 having netted five goals on trial at Deveronvale that season, but choosing to sign on for then-Huntly boss Allan Hale.

He scored twice for the club that season and 14 times in the following campaign, before enjoying his best term yet with 24 in the 2023-24 campaign.

Banks o’ Dee tempted him into a move that summer and he netted 14 goals for the Aberdeen club last term, adding three more in the opening four games of the current campaign.

Huntly chairman Gordon Carter said when it became apparent that Hunter might be available for a switch, it was important that the club did everything they could to make it happen.

“I am delighted to confirm that we have reached an agreement with Banks O' Dee to secure Andy’s transfer to Huntly,” he said.

“Andy has signed a contract with us today that commits him to our club until June 30th 2027.

“Andy is a proven top class Highland League striker and his signing will give everyone involved with the club a real boost as we strive to start winning games again after a disappointing run of results.

“Thanks to Paul Bain, Banks o Dee Director of Football for the manner in which our discussions were conducted."

Hunter will come straight into Huntly’s squad for Saturday’s trip to bottom club Rothes.

The player himself said on social media: “Saturday will be a buzz to see all the boys and everyone part of Huntly again.

“I’m looking forward to jumping back in and getting going.

“Big thanks to Gordon, Coco (Charlesworth) and management team for making the move happen."
