Highland League: Buckie Thistle end losing run but let two-goal lead slip against Inverurie Locos while title chasers Brora Rangers crash to shock defeat
Buckie Thistle ended a three-game losing streak, but let a big lead slip for the second game running.
Jags moved up a place into ninth in the Highland League after a 2-2 draw with Inverurie Locos on Wednesday night.
Lewis Mackinnon’s team, who saw a 4-0 lead become a 5-4 defeat in the Aberdeenshire Shield at Hermes in their last outing, this time saw a two-goal advantage disappear.
Marcus Goodall and Sam Pugh had Buckie 2-0 up inside 12 minutes at Victoria Park.
However a quick reply from Locos through Callum Dingwall set some doubts in Jags’ minds.
The visitors duly levelled through Callum Duncan early in the second half, and there was no further scoring.
There was a surprise in the night’s other match as Clachnacuddin gained revenge for their North Cup final thumping at the hands of Brora Rangers.
Beaten 6-1 by the Cattachs in their showpiece match at Nairn in October, the Inverness side travelled to Dudgeon Park looking to make amends.
It didn’t start well for them as Craig Mackenzie put Brora ahead after eight minutes, and the home side held their advantage until half time.
Clach stayed in the contest, then flipped in on its head with two goals in seven minutes from Troy Cooper and James Anderson just after the hour.
Brora couldn’t find a way back and their 2-1 defeat sees them remain seven points behind leaders Brechin City, now with just one game in hand.
Huntly’s home clash with Fraserburgh was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
