The first slot at Huntly Bowling Club at 10am was occupied and over the weekend, while there was steady demand, there was plenty room for more bowlers.

Secretary Jim Gordon said: “A good few folk turned out to play and were clearly pleased to have the opportunity but we did not need to open up all the rinks.

"Everyone did as we asked to maintain health and safety.”

A strict time table applies and places can be booked by calling 01466 792312 between 10am and 2pm.

Huntly Golf Club opened for members on Friday and saw a steady stream of players throughout the weekend and earlier this week.

Committee member Kevin Rough said: “Everyone did as they were instructed, there were no problems and we signed up over 20 new members which is great news for the club.”

The course is open 8am until 8.30pm.

Now also back in action are the tennis courts at the Cooper Park in Huntly after being reopened by Live Life Aberdeenshire.

The courts can be used for free but to manage the expected demand for the courts after weeks of restrictions, a new online booking system has been introduced.

Players will have to register and book a one-hour time slot before using their court of choice.

Play is limited to 50 minutes to avoid crossover between players entering and leaving courts.

Racquets and balls will have to be brought by the players and government guidance on social distancing must be observed at all times.

The guidance includes, a maximum of two people per court, unless doubles pairs are both from the same household, only handling your own racket and personal, marked, tennis balls and avoiding changing ends or change ends at opposite sides of the net. No coaching is allowed unless the coach is part of the household group

People who are self isolating should not play public health guidelines for hygiene must be followed.

Huntly Angling Association has also opened its beats.

Permits can only be bought by calling 01466 792291, where a message should be left. Payments will be required by debit card and the permit will be posted out.

Anglers are reminded they can only travel to the beat with a member of their own household and they must not use any of the small shelters on the river bank.

Tackle should not be shared and hand sanitation measures used at stiles or gates.
