Huntly crash out of Aberdeenshire Shield as Aberdeen rising star Joseph Teasdale, son of ex-Elgin City and Caley Thistle favourite Michael nets a double
One of Aberdeen’s highly-rated youngsters brought down Huntly in the Aberdeenshire Shield.
The Christie Park side crashed out of the competition at the first hurdle on Tuesday night, losing 3-2 to the Dons’ B team.
Joseph Teasdale, whose father Michael starred for Elgin City, Caley Thistle and Dundee during his own playing career, netted twice including the second half winner.
The 17-year-old recently scored a double for the Dons against his dad’s home club Elgin in the KDM Evolution Trophy and was a regular marksman in their Shire Cup run.
Aberdeen’s development side, coached by former Dons, Dundee United and Caley Thistle midfielder Stuart Duff, had already won the Aberdeenshire Cup this term.
They had defeated Fraserburgh, Banks o’ Dee and Buckie Thistle before edging out Formartine United in the final, and were keen to take another Highland League scalp.
The Dons included Nigerian striker Peter Ambrose who has featured many times for their first team, as well as youngsters like Teasdale and Alfie Bavidge who have impressed on loan at Kelty Hearts and Caley Thistle respectively this term.
Current Cove Rangers loanee Dylan Lobban set up Teasdale for a tap-in opener and Ambrose doubled the visitors’ lead, teed up by ex-Celtic man Mitchel Frame.
Huntly staged a comeback either side of the break, with top scorer Angus Grant scoring right on the interval, and again a minute after to level it up at 2-2.
But Teasdale scored what proved to be the winner on 53 minutes, firing home from a Bavidge assist.
North of Scotland League pair Dyce and Hermes meet tonight in this week’s other first round tie, while Formartine host Fraserburgh next Tuesday and Banks o’ Dee are at home to Turriff United on Wednesday - the winners of that tie play Aberdeen in the quarters.
Buckie Thistle and Deveronvale meet in the last four on November 12 after both receiving byes in the same way as Inverurie Locos and Keith, who clash at Harlaw Park on the same night.
Formartine or Fraserburgh host the winners of tonight’s Dyce v Hermes game in the quarters.
