Highland League football: Big night of cup action in the North of Scotland Cup and Aberdeenshire Cup quarter-finals

Highland League, SPFL and North Junior clubs will do battle in the quarter-finals of two cup competitions tonight.

The North of Scotland Cup sees holders Rothes take on League 2 neighbours Elgin City at MacKessack Park.

The Speysiders defeated Elgin on the way to winning the trophy last season, although the Black and Whites could field a number of first team players including Caley Thistle loan signing Lewis Nicolson.

Forres Mechanics will aim to build on a strong start to the season against Moray rivals Lossiemouth.

The young Cans have won three league games already while Lossie sit bottom of the table having conceded 13 goals to high flying Buckie and Fraserburgh in their last two outings.

The winners of the Forres v Lossie clash are at home in the semis to Brora Rangers or Strathspey Thistle, who meet at Dudgeon Park.

Clachnacuddin take on Wick Academy with the victors travelling to Rothes or Elgin next.

In the Aberdeenshire Cup, Fraserburgh's reward for ousting holders Banks O' Dee in the last round is a home clash against Inverurie Locos.

Formartine United, who defeated Highland League leaders Buckie Thistle on penalties in round one, are at home to Deveronvale who also won on spot kicks against Hermes.

Turriff United and Aberdeen University both received first round byes and meet in the Granite City for a place in the semi-finals.

The remaining quarter-final between Huntly and Aberdeen will be played on August 30.
