Following recently updated industry guidance, organisers have unfortunately been forced to cancel the Great Inverurie Bike Ride and Suie Classic Cycle Sportive due to take place this weekend on Sunday, September 27.

A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: "Both events attracted a significant number of entries and the decision to cancel is very disappointing for us, but was made in light of new guidance from sportscotland.

"Our events team will be contacting entrants directly and entry fees will be refunded. "

It follows the recent cancellation of Huntly Duathlon following a change in guidance for the operation of such events.

He continued: "These are challenging times for event organisers and the events industry as we endeavour to try to bring back challenges and competition for the public in this ever-changing landscape.

"We're keen to continue to support local sportspeople, so look out for details of virtual events in coming weeks."
