The beginning of the week was a bit of a write off at Delgatie Trout Fishery with heavy rain on Monday, which coloured the water, and high winds on Tuesday toppling a couple of trees on the track.

This gave the fishery, with the advantage of the coloured water the opportunity to crack on and do some on site weeding.

The watered cleared by late Thursday.

Given the start of the week understandably foot fall was light , but for those who did come they were in general well rewarded.

Cutting the weed released a lot of insect life to the water leading to a feeding frenzy bringing on a good showing from the larger fish and the browns.

The fish are still high in the water taking various dries, mainly Kilkenhammers , black gnat patterns, Black Pennels, and Bibios.

Lures , black fritz, and damsels did very well.

Worthy of note was Fergus Massie on his fourth fly fishing outing, with his new rod, catching his first fish on his 27th birthday.

During the week 12 double figure fish were caught , with many fish around the 5 to 9lb mark also taken.

It was good to see the browns coming alive with fish between 1lb to 1.5lb being regularly caught.

A lot of good bags were being taken with three bags of over 20 fish falling to Al Murray Paul Kier and Mark Bostock.

James Alexzander caught a nice 12lb-er and while up on holiday Bill Bergant and grandson Roan McCallum watched Bill catch a 10lb 2oz, a 9lb and a 8lb 10oz in one session, only to be eclipsed by 14 year old Roan who caught an 11lb 4oz rainbow during the same session.

Roan on his way to being a Youth Trout Master.

Interesting observation and probably due to the weeding, was the appearance of small freshwater shrimps with patterns to be tried out in the coming week.

The overall figures for the week saw 41 fishers, with a total of 232 fish caught and five blanks as of midday Sunday.
