Lossiemouth striker Brodie Christie on ‘jump’ from juniors to Highland League after grabbing double against Fraserburgh
Stepping up to Highland League football from the juniors has been a “jump” for Lossiemouth striker Brodie Christie.
But the Buckie-based forward grabbed a double as the Coasters came from 1-0 down to shock Fraserburgh 3-1 at Grant Park on Saturday - and now hopes to kick on.
Christie came off the bench around the hour mark, saw his team go behind five minutes later and then equalised on 75 minutes when he capitalised on some slack defending to slot home.
He scored what proved to be the winner just minutes from time after being in the right place at the right time when Fraserburgh’s goalkeeper spilled a cross into the area.
The brace and the subsequent man of the match award provided the perfect end to what to a special 10 days for Christie - which started with his wedding.
Christie, who works at Keith Builders, said: “It’s been busy!
“Stepping up from the juniors has been a jump. We had a good pre-season but have been hot and cold.
“But it’s big for the team getting a result against Fraserburgh. There was a bit of an extra buzz at training. We are looking to build on it.”
Being new to the Highland League set-up means that Christie is yet to experience the Scottish Cup.
Lossiemouth are away this weekend, taking on Lowland League side Linlithgow Rose in the competition’s first round.
The Coasters will head down the road and stay in Dunfermline on Friday night before taking on the Lowland League’s third-placed side, who have won five league games in succession.
But Lossie don’t have to look far for inspiration when it comes to cup shocks.
Lossiemouth United - managed by the son of Lossiemouth coach Ian Campbell - provided perhaps the biggest upset in Scottish Junior Cup history when they defeated Auchinleck Talbot at the end of August.
Christie added: “It's my first taste of the Scottish Cup and it's a big tie.
“They are a top team, but it's a cup tie and a one-off. Getting a good away tie and getting down the night before is part of the excitement.
“If you look what Lossiemouth United did against Talbot then there is no reason we can't go and have a go.
“It’s all about testing yourself against teams you might never play again. I’m excited to see what’s out and about.”
