Deveronvale knocked out of Scottish Gas Scottish Cup by Lowland league Bo’ness United as player manager Garry Wood is sent off

Deveronvale exited the Scottish Cup at the first hurdle on Saturday after losing 4-2 at home to last season’s Lowland League runners-up Bo’ness United.

Two goals from ex-Elgin City front man Smart Osadolor helped the Lothian outfit through to a second round tie against Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

Vale also had player manager Garry Wood sent off on a disappointing afternoon at Princess Royal Park.

Bo’ness, backed by a good travelling support in Banff, took the lead on 12 minutes through a fine finish by Louis Kennedy.

Vale’s equaliser seven minutes later was even better, as they won a free kick on the edge of the box and captain Harry Noble stepped up to smash a trademark strike beyond the keeper.

The home side enjoyed a spell on top during which Jack Mitchell was denied by a superb save.

But a damaging two-minute spell before half time proved costly for Wood’s side.

Slack defending allowed Osadolor a tap-in and when Kyle Johnston slammed in a third goal soon after, Vale were really up against it.

Wood’s dismissal for a second yellow made the challenge even more uphill, but there was still some hope when Matty Petermann fired home a low drive on 89 minutes to set up an exciting finish.

But as Vale pushed for an eqaliser they were caught on the break in stoppage time, Osadolor easing through to clip home the decisive fourth Bo’ness goal.

Vale, who visit Forres Mechanics on Saturday in their next league match, announced over the weekend that vice-captain Jamie MacLellan has signed a contract extension.

“Jamie is a key part of my plans going forward. He has been a top perfomer this season,” said manager Wood on the club’s Facebook.
