Sadly, despite having a hatful of chances in the first half, they ended up losing out to two second half goals for the hosts.

Recalled Matty Tough pulled a fine save out of Logan Ross with a header early on, before dangerman Kieran Mooney twice went close with shots and Tom Andrews also firing inches past the post.

The ‘keeper rose to the occasion again seven minutes from the break pulling off a fine diving save to palm away Stewart Hutcheon’s powerful header.

The Maroons were stunned two minutes into the second half when Liam Archibald got the final touch in a crowded six yard box.

That seemed to set back on their heels and failed to force any sort of save out of the goalie. The points were sewn up for the homesters with a fine looping header from Fraser Forbes from 12 yards.

A disappointing outcome for the visitors given the opportunities they had in the first half.

Keith boss Craig Ewen admitted he was “struggling for words” to describe his emotions after Wednesday night’s 2-0 defeat at Lossiemouth.

“I thought the first half we played quite well and controlled reasonable parts of the 45 minutes but it is that old adage ‘you have to take your chances when you are on top’.

“We conceded a goal when our defender cleared it into the boy’s shin and it has flown into the bottom corner.

“I think their second goal was offside. At 2-0 we huffed and puffed. Logan Ross had a few great saves tonight. I am just gutted really.

“We were in a winning position on Saturday and gave that away (4-3 defeat at Deveronvale) and tonight I thought we played pretty decent football and were on the front foot. It is hard to take.”

KEITH – Irvine, Hutcheon, Wilson, Thomas (Coull 79), Robertson, Yunus, Emmett (Ironside 66), Brownie, Mooney, Tough, Andrews (Nawrocki 76). Subs unused – Grant, Abdulkarim, Killoh, Duncan.
