KEITH progressed to the first round proper of the Scottish Cup with a 5-1 victory over Fort William at Kynoch Park on Saturday.
It was a record-breaking day for Keith, who won at home in the Scottish Cup for the first time since January 1996. Cammy Keith also became the club's all-time top scorer in the competition, with nine, ending a 65-year-old record held by Jim Campbell.
The Maroons will take on Hill of Beath Hawthorn at Kynoch Park in the next round of the competition, with the tie to take place on the weekend of December 26.
Co-manager Tommy Wilson was delighted with the result and performance. He said: “Fort William came and battled away well. We started the game well, we scored two good goals and were in control.
“We fell out of the game slightly as Fort William got their goal and put us under a bit of pressure.
“But second half I thought we were excellent. We kept the ball, there was some great movement and we were unlucky not to get some more goals. It was another positive win."
Keith started the game brightly – taking a two-goal lead within 15 minutes. Striker Cammy Keith, who started the match on 347 goals for Highland League sides, got both.
The first arrived on 11 minutes as Michael Selfridge capitalised on slack defending to find Keith, who bundled home from close range.
His second was a classier finish – chesting the ball down and slotting it in from 10 yards after again being found by Selfridge.
It looked like a long afternoon for Fort William, with Cammy Keith having three chances to wrap up his hat-trick before the 35th minute.
However, the visitors were right back into the match ten minutes before half-time as 16-year-old Jamie McConnell took advantage of Keith keeper David Dey's slack clearance to score from 40 yards.
Keith were well on top throughout the second period but the visitors were inches away from an equaliser on 57 minutes as Connor Moore struck just wide after great work from Joe McBride.
The Maroons punished Fort for that miss when they killed the game on 66 minutes. A great ball from left back Andy Smith was met with a bullet header from 17-year-old substitute Logan Watt, on loan from Fraserburgh, for 3-1.
James Brownie and Ryan Spink were denied really well by Fort keeper Mateusz Kulbacki before the fourth goal arrived through Liam Duncan, another of the substitutes.
Duncan knocked in a rebound after Kulbacki had again done well to deny Selfridge.
The cherry was put on the cake in stoppage time when James Brownie fired in from 20 yards, again after Selfridge had been denied by Kulbacki.
Keith travel to Deveronvale on Sauturday with both sides looking to record their first league win of the season. Kick off is 3pm.
