KEITH are through to the quarter-finals of the Highland League Cup after beating Lossiemouth 3-2 after extra time.

The game was 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Keith ran out narrow winners after an additional half hour.

Keith boss Dean Donaldson said: “To be honest, we didn’t deserve to win the game and penalties would have been a fairer result.

"But we got the result and that is the most important thing in cup football.

“Lossiemouth created more chances than us and have definitely improved since the last time we played them.”

Keith took the lead on the brink of half-time through Gregor MacDonald but Kris Duncan equalised for the visitors before the hour mark.

That’s how it stayed until the 104th minute when Cammy Keith slotted home – but the lead was short lived as Fraser Forbes levelled a minute later.

Max Berton’s effort from the edge of the box three minutes from the end won it for Keith in dramatic fashion.

Lossiemouth manager Joe Russell said the result was tough to take for his side, who he said were "brilliant".

“It was a bit of sickener as we played some brilliant stuff and created lots of chances," he said.

"We dominated large spells of the match so we are disappointed to come away with nothing.

“We ran out of legs in extra time and the boys were out on the feet. It was a great effort and with more luck would have got something more out of it."

Keith have the weekend off, due to Formartine United being in Scottish Cup action, while Lossiemouth travel to Huntly looking for back-to-back wins over the Black and Golds.

Russell added: "I’m hoping the boys recover. At least Huntly had a game as well so hopefully it’s taken a toll on them too as we are suffering.

"Hopefully we can perform the way we know we can and get a more positive result.”
