Deveronvale super sub Cammy Angus scores ‘dream’ Scottish Gas Scottish Cup equaliser against home town club Elgin City before joy turns to heartache

A dream goal against his home club in the Scottish cup turned to heartache moments later.

Cammy Angus climbed off Deveronvale’s bench to fire in a late equaliser against Elgin City, the club he first joined at the age of five.

Within five minutes, League 2 Elgin fired home what proved to be the winning strike to break the hearts of a big travelling Banffshire support - Jack Murray had netted ten-man Elgin’s opener.

Elgin City drew fellow League 2 side Stirling Albion at home in the third round.

“I’m gutted,” said Angus in his post-match video interview - watch it above.

“It was a dream goal to score here. But you want to win.”

Angus was ambushed during his interview by Elgin City keeper Tom Ritchie, who he remembers from school football in Elgin and who he previously scored against when the former Aberdeen custodian was at Buckie Thistle.

“The boys always give me a bit of a stick here. Especially coming here to Elgin as a youngster. I was probably here from about the age of 5 to maybe 20.”

The 23-year-old described his Scottish Cup goal as a career highlight and hopes it can trigger a strong second half to the season for Vale.
