THE upcoming Highland League season’s fixtures were announced on Friday – with Huntly given a run of games against teams who finished below them in the 2019-20 campaign to start.

Huntly only finished above five teams in that league campaign – but will start with four of those in succession this time out.

Strathspey Thistle are visitors to Christie Park on opening day (July 24), before Huntly visit Clachnacuddin and Turriff United and host Lossiemouth.

Manager Allan Hale isn’t reading much into the schedule.

He said: “I don’t think it matters who you play at the start. Until you play everyone once you don’t know where everyone is in terms of fitness levels and quality.

“In the Highland League there is no easy game so we need to approach them all in the same way.

“We will focus on ourselves, keep putting in the hard work and hopefully pre-season will gear us up for a good start come the end of July.”

In terms of an overall goal for the league campaign, Hale is ambitious – certainly looking to improve on the club’s 12th place finish in the shortened 19-20 season.

He added: “We are looking for top half minimum. We came into Huntly to be as successful as we can be, we are targetting the latter stages of cup competitions and the top six of the Highland League.

“We have made positive signings and the players we had already are improving.

"We are delighted with where we are at as a club.”
