The Christie Park club hope to confirm soon the identity of a midfielder with Highland League experience who has returned from a spell overseas.

Hale is also on the trail of a loan signing as he looks to bring his squad numbers close to his target of 20 players for the coming campaign.

Huntly played their first bounce game on Saturday - a 2-2 draw with Deveronside - and Hale will continue to assess the pre-season progress of his inherited squad over several closed door friendlies to prepare for the intended kick-off on October 17.

“We are getting minutes into the boys’ legs,” he said. “Obviously for us it was about getting them back to playing a competitive game of football, which the players haven’t done since the start of March.

“So there’s a period of rustiness there and we’ve only had four or five training sessions with the players.

“But it was evident that the things we’ve been working on in training, the players were taking on board and trying to do it within the game.

“So it was a really positive exercise and the players got some much needed minutes.”

Hale said much work is being done behind the scenes to implement Covid-19 measures at Christie Park and get the stadium ready for the planned return of supporters in October.

“The committee are doing a great job and everyone is pulling together to make sure that the facilities are safe and that we are adhering to all the regulations that are being set upon us from the government and the SFA.

“It is a lot that the clubs need to do but it’s great to see everyone pulling together with the common purpose of that end goal which is getting us back to football.”
