Historically, the Premier League has consisted of 10 of the world’s best players but last year, due to Gary Anderson’s injury, ‘local heroes’ were drafted in to play events.

Henderson played world number one Michael van Gerwen last year at the AECC in Aberdeen, drawing 6-6 in one of the season's most dramatic matches.

And, with the idea having been deemed a success, Hendo is back in action this year – as a "challenger".

He will be in action on February 6 at the P&J Live, with tickets on sale now and the matches to be announced in due course.

Fallon Sherrock, the first woman to win at the PDC Darts World Championships, was also announced as a challenger, with the line-up of nine permanent fixtures set to take to the oche on 16 stages around the UK and the Netherlands.
