Huntly Amateur Swimming Club well represented at Inverurie and Aberdeen events

AFTER a lapse of 18 months from competitions, nine Huntly Amateur Swimming Club members travelled to the Garioch Mini meet.

Held in Inverurie's new pool, the team managed 27 personal best times from 29 swims.

Lucy Lumsden, Kim Adam, Emlyn Findlater, Isla Gray, Lexi Mitchell, Charlie Tocher, Quentin Barclay and Holly Kindness all competed in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke each achieving personal bests in all three swims.

Holly Kindness (9) won gold in the 50m breaststroke and silver in the 50m freestyle.

Kim Adam's 17-second PB in the 50m Backstroke was the biggest of the day.

Leith McRailt-Young, the most experienced member of the team had the busiest day with five individual swims, achieving personal bests in three. She was also the lead swimmer in Huntly's two mixed relay teams.

The club recently honoured its top swimmers after a series of competitions held during training in place of the traditional club gala.

Girls - Novice: Holly Kindness; runner up Gabriella Goss.

Junior: Amelie McLean; runner up Phoebe Sykes.

Senior: Isla Menzies and Elspeth Cruickshank.

Boys - Junior: Scott Adam; runner up Brodie Calloway.

Seniors: Evan Sykes: runner up Darrach Gardener.

The club also took part at a district event in Aberdeen Sports Village Aberdeen, with all the best swimmers from all the clubs competing.

Huntly were represented by Isla Menzies, Chloe Wood, Amelie McLean, Phoebe Sykes, Anwin Findlater, Elspeth Cruickshank, Hannah Lumsden and Sam Proctor.

The squad produced some outstanding swimming and 32 new personal bests were set.

Cruickshank reached two finals in the 14/15 age group 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke.
