Highland League football: Keith’s four-game winning streak ends at Banks o’ Dee with three female officials making history, while weather rules out Saturday fixtures
One of this weekend’s Highland League fixtures is done and dusted - and three more have bitten the dust.
Banks o’ Dee maintained their outside title chance by ending Keith’s four-match winning league run in convincing fashion on Friday night.
Dee moved into third place with a 5-0 victory at Spain Park in the very first Highland League match to have three female match officials.
Abbie Hendry was the referee with assistants Olivia Crawford and Paulina Ruszniak running the lines.
Max Alexander put the Aberdonians in front on 13 minutes and two goals in a minute by Andy Hunter and Chris Antoniazzi left Keith with a mountain to climb in the second half.
They could not pull it back, with Hunter adding a fourth soon after the restart and Michael Philipson’s 14th goal of the season completing the scoring with more than half an hour to play.
Today’s Moray derby between relegation threatened Rothes and Lossiemouth has been postponed due to a frozen MacKessack Park pitch.
Similarly, the games between Strathspey Thistle and Wick Academy, and Inverurie Locos against leaders Brechin City, are off.
An inspection will be held at 1.30pm at Christie Park, where Huntly are scheduled to meet Deveronvale for the second Saturday running.
Games definitely on at the moment include Buckie Thistle’s trip to Fraserburgh and Forres Mechanics’ journey north to Brora Rangers.
The Highland derby between Nairn County and Clach will undergo a 1pm inspection while Turriff United’s home game against Formartine United remains on at present.
In the north juniors, Islavale’s Premier League match against Newmachar United is off along with Dufftown’s Championship game against Stoneywood Parkvale and Burghead Thistle’s away game at Glentanar.
