Turriff RFC were unable to come away with a win against Highland RFC 3rd XV, despite a fantastic second half performance.

The game kicked off and Highland took possession early on in the game.

Turriff did well to keep the heads and steal the ball on a couple of occasions, however the experience within the Highland back line was soon unleashed.

It was a tough first half for the Turriff team who conceded seven tries in a row, however not once did the heads go down.

This attitude saw a big push from the whole team and soon the men in pink were on the score sheet after hands went wide to speedster Mark Davidson who crashed through the gap to reach over for a try.

The wide angle was difficult for Fraser Geddes, leaving the try unconverted.

Highland had the last say of the half with another try, however the fitness of the Turriff team was not to be underestimated which made for an incredible second half of comeback rugby.

The defence from the Turriff team in this half was strong, and Highland were having to work hard for their yards under constant pressure, especially at the breakdown.

After several phases, Highland managed to get over for another try, which did not go unanswered as a short while later Turriff had pushed them back against their own try line.

Sticking around waiting for an opportunity was Stuart Barron which came after Highland attempted an exit kick - he rushed forward for the charge down, and quickly reacted to dive on the ball right in the corner.

This too was unconverted.

The next period of play saw Highland convert two more tries from a strong runner, however in general Turriff were stringing together much better phases and were close to scoring multiple tries.

The final 20 was all Turriff, with the forwards carrying well and setting a great platform for the backs who spread the opposition wide.

Mark Davidson was next to go over the line after getting the ball just outside the 22 and dodging defenders to go in under the posts.

A similar opportunity came not long after for Mike Booth who was playing phenomenally well for his first start for Turriff.

He took the ball well from Davidson and broke through two tackles to dive over and give Turriff the final say of the game.

Geddes was on fine form, and successfully converted both tries.

The first half was a wake up call for a relatively inexperienced Turriff team, however the way they came together to put on a cracking second half display shows the character within the team.

Not only that, but they managed to come away with a losing bonus point from four tries after being down 54-5 at half time!

This weekend the men will enjoy a well deserved break, followed by a home game against Peterhead on October 30.
