Scotland ‘Braveheart’ football legend Colin Hendry is special guest at Buckie Thistle’s far-travelled servant Kevin Fraser’s testimonial dinner
More than a decade of service to his Highland League club - and a huge amount of mileage.
Kevin Fraser is now in his 11th season with Buckie Thistle and is being rewarded with a testimonial.
Tickets are still on sale for a testimonial dinner being held in the popular midfielder’s honour this month, with former Scotland and Rangers legend Colin Hendry as the guest speaker.
Fraser captained Jags to trophy glory in his time at the club and suffered long-term injury but is back to his best at the age of 34 and inspiring a fine run of results for his team.
A member of Fraser’s testimonial committee has calculated roughly how many miles the Inverness-based player has clocked up during his time at Buckie, and it’s a fair distance!
“It was around the mileage he will have completed by the end of the season on behalf of the team,” said the spokesperson.
They calculated that Fraser has made the 110-mile round trip from Inverness to Buckie around three times a week (including training) for around 40 weeks a season, over what will soon be 11 seasons.
“This equals approx. 145,200 miles.....over half way to the moon!”
More than 100 tickets have been sold for Fraser’s testimonial dinner on Saturday, November 15 at Buckie’s Fisherman’s Hall.
Former Highland League goalkeeping legend Ian Thain will compere the night and Hendry will share stories from his remarkable football career.
The Keith boy played for Manchester City, won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers and the Scottish domestic treble at Rangers, and was the last man to captain Scotland at a World Cup finals in France in 1998.
