FYVIE Football Club have announced their resignation from the North-east Welfare League - just months after lifting the Division Two title.

The village club are now seeking to join the Aberdeenshire Amateur ranks for the 2020/21 campaign.

Fyvie only reformed in the spring of 2018, having completed a successful fundraising campaign to completely revamp the community changing facilities which had lay derelict for a number of years.

A club statement read: "The committee met last night (Tuesday) and decided that for the forthcoming season we will be submitting an application to join the Aberdeen Amateur Football Association rather than continue our progress with North East Scotland Football Association in the welfare leagues.

"This is a decision that we as a club have not taken lightly and it is after some deep thought, consideration and discussion that we have decided to follow this route of progression.

"Whilst we are aiming to apply to become members of the Aberdeen Amateur Football Association for the forthcoming season start in August, we will be working tirelessly over the coming months to further improve the club’s facilities and playing friendly matches to prepare the team.

"That being said it is still with a heavy heart that we leave North East Scotland Football Association. They afforded us the opportunity to join their league upon reforming and for that we will be forever grateful."

In addition to the Division Two title, Fyvie also reached two cup finals in an impressive first campaign.

NESFA have confirmed that Banff Rovers - who were only admitted to the set-up at Monday night's AGM - will be unaffected by Fyvie's resignation, with Division One now only comprising of nine teams, while 11 will ply their trade in Division Two when the new season kicks off at the end of March.

Fraserburgh-based Faithlie United were the last side to make the switch from NESFA to Aberdeenshire Amateurs in 2016, having won promotion twice in the time since.

Should Fyvie's application be successful, they will start out in Division Two North or East (the third tier of the pyramid).
