The sun may have shone at Bellslea Park on Saturday, but it rained goals on Keith, with unbeaten league leaders Fraserburgh hitting a magnificent seven without reply.
Although the Maroons still had a handful of players missing through injury, the goalscoring malaise continued with only one shot on target, a Demi Yunus penalty that hit the foot of the post.
Yet the result might have had a different outcome had Andy Stewart not squandered a golden chance to level matters ten minutes from half-time.
‘Broch edged ahead midway through the first half when ex-Maroons loanee Logan Watt threaded a pass through for Scott Barbour to rifle home a low drive.
Keith were more than holding their own, then came Stewart’s missed chance.
Barely a minute into the second half, defensive dithering allowed Bryan Hay to scramble the ball over the line after Willie West’s header hit the bar.
Another ex-Maroon Gary Harris then whipped over a right wing cross for Barbour to slide home at the back post.
With 69 minutes on the clock, Stewart was sent sprawling inside the penalty but Yunus, having a fine game at the back, sent the goalie the wrong way, only to see his kick hit the foot of the post.
That seemed to knock a bit of the stuffing out of the visitors, as ‘Broch steamed forward.
Lewis Duncan hit the bar before a devastating three goals in three minutes had them gasping.
Paul Young nabbed two goals in a minute, then Sean Butcher headed home at the back post, and repeated the feat in the final minute.
A decent first half display by Keith without showing any real punch up front, but sadly the missed chance proved ever so costly as ‘Broch ran riot in that second half spell.
