Islavale appoint former Highland League goalkeeper Scott Riddoch as new manager following Michael Dunn’s departure after just four months in job at North of Scotland Football League side

The end of one manager’s four-month reign, and the quick appointment of his successor.

Islavale announced the departure of boss Michael Dunn last week, having taken the former Highland League defender to the club from Dufftown in February.

Former Buckie Thistle and Rothes goalkeeper Scott Riddoch has been appointed as Dunn’s successor.

Vale, who play in the new North of Scotland Football League Premier Division, announced last week that Dunn and his assistant James Reid had left following a decision made “in the best interest of the club going forward”.

The ex-Elgin City, Rothes, Lossiemouth, Huntly, Keith and Deveronvale stopper had been coaching in Keith Football Club’s youth set-up, and was lured from a player manager position at Dufftown to join Vale four months ago.

“Not an easy decision to make but the decision was made in the best interest of the club going forward,” said an Islavale statement on the departure of Dunn and Reid.

“They replaced Jim Stables and Jim Brindle at end of February and saw a mixed run of results in second half of season.

The post was advertised and quickly filled, with 34-year-old Riddoch unveiled as the new man in charge at Simpson Park.

“Scott indicated an interest in taking the job on and is currently completing his UEFA C License,” Vale announced on their Facebook.

“(He) is a former Vale player having played for club several years ago and also helped out last season towards the end of the campaign. He has played for many clubs in his career including Portgordon Victoria, Buckie Thistle, Dufftown and Whitehills.

“His management team will be announced in due course.

“Scott is delighted to have been given the job and knows it will be tough but is eager to do well.

“He had to begin his managing career somewhere and (is) delighted club gave him the opportunity. With several players needed to be recruited he has wasted no time with contact made with many players already.

“All at the Vale will be behind him and his management team and will give him the best support possible.”
