Dufftown climb off bottom spot in north junior football championship and Lossiemouth United make it eight league wins in a row
Dufftown finally grabbed their first league win of the north junior football season on Saturday to climb off the bottom of the championship table.
The Toonsers fell to the foot of the rankings on the previous weekend after Whitehills landed their first victory of the campaign.
So an away trip to a buoyant ‘Hills side was not exactly a tantalising prospect for Dufftown, but they stepped up to the mark in the bottom-of-the-league match.
Goals by Euan Simpson, Jake Logan, Kieran Hayllar (2) and Shaun Cameron helped the visitors to a 5-2 win over their ten-man hosts, with Aidan MacDougall and Declan Mathieson on target for ‘Hills.
Lossiemouth United made it eight league wins in a row to strengthen their title bid.
United won the coast derby clash with Burghead Thistle and remain five points behind leaders Banchory St Ternan with three games in hand.
Burghead led at the break from a Kelvin Mackenzie goal, but a long range Finlay McKay blast and an Alex Matczak penalty won it for the home team.
New Elgin’s recent good form took a downturn with a 4-1 defeat at Westdyke, and Forres Thistle crashed 6-0 at leaders Banchory.
Islavale went down 6-0 at Hermes in the Premier Division and had player manager Robert Scott sent off.
