Islavale appoint new manager with former Highland League stalwart Michael Dunn leaving Dufftown to join North Region junior neighbours
Islavale have appointed former Highland League defender Michael Dunn as their new manager.
The north junior premier league side lured the 34-year-old from neighbours Dufftown, where he played and managed most recently.
Dunn replaces Vale management duo Jim Stables and Jim Brindle, who had already stated they would be stepping down at the end of the current season.
As well as bossing Dufftown, Dunn has been coaching in Keith FC’s youth development ranks.
An uncompromising defender in his own playing career with Elgin City, Rothes, Lossiemouth, Huntly, Keith and Deveronvale, Dunn said on the club’s Facebook page that was excited by the challenge of managing in the top tier of the juniors.
“There’s a lot of potential in this team, and my goal is to bring out the best in every player, both individually and as a unit,” he said.
“While the expectations are high, I am committed to focusing on the process and continuous improvement. Building a strong, cohesive squad is a top priority, and I’m eager to work with the players to develop a strategy that plays to their strengths.”
Also leaving Dufftown is Dunn’s assistant James Reid, who now joins Islavale for a second spell having played for the Keith side.
A Vale spokesperson said: “Michael played for over 12 years in the Highland League before a few seasons in the juniors.
“He then got into coaching with the youngsters in Keith taking charge of the under-14s before moving up to the 18s and 21s.
“Michael has recently been coaching Dufftown in the Championship but felt an opportunity like this was too good to turn down. He knows how well-run the club is which was another factor in joining the Vale.”
Dunn and Reid take charge for the first time in the League Cup away to Bridge of Don Thistle on Saturday.
