Ellon Gordon Cricket Club's opening fixture of the season resulted in a three wicket defeat by Siyapa at Harlaw last Saturday.

Not being able to field a full team didn't help them in their cause coupled by the fact they were without three of their more experienced players.

That said why they chose to bat first with a weakened team on winning the toss seemed rather a strange decision.

They opened with Webb and Ally Addy and they began steady enough putting on 20 for the first wicket.

Barrett replaced Webb to help Addy add a further 30 to the total before he was trapped lbw for 14.

Greenfield followed soon after this left Barrett as the only batsman likely to trouble the Siyapa bowlers. He and Sandham did succeed in adding a further 23 to the total before Barrett was caught when the total was 77.

The fall of that wicket brought about the collapse to the innings as the remaining five wickets fell for the addition of only 12 runs.

Thus not providing the opposition with as big a task as Ellon would have hoped for. Barrett top scored with 37 while only Webb and A.Addy of the others made it into double figures.

Most successful home bowler was M.Shahid with five wickets for 20 runs in his 8 overs

Ellon opened their bowling with Greenfield and Barrett successfully keeping the openers quiet for the first few overs.

When the score was 23 Usman was bowled by Barrett.

Eight runs later Barrett struck again trapping Memon when the score was 31.

A further six runs and Barrett struck yet again having Sadiq caught by Greenfield in the deep.

After this first Bedaar and Masood added 18 to the total before Masood and Ali added a further 26 to leave Siyapa within touching distance of the total they required and although they did loose a further two wickets they did get there for the loss of only seven wickets and with plenty of overs to spare.

Ali top scored for Siyapa scoring 4 fours in his 19 not out while another four batsmen made it into double figures.

Most successful Ellon bowlers were Barrett and Webb with three wickets each.

Things might have been quite different if Ellon had had a full team or even scored a further 20 runs.
