Elgin City manager Allan Hale hopes to do loan business in the Scottish football transfer window but his priority is Saturday’s William Hill League 2 clash with Spartans at Borough Briggs

Allan Hale wants Elgin City’s 2025 to get off to a flying start tomorrow.

But if the Black and Whites’ League 2 clash with Spartans at Borough Briggs beats the weather, their manager expects the toughest of tests.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Peterhead - a result that put Elgin back on top of the division - Hale is keen to do business in the January transfer window.

Injuries continue to cut deep into Elgin’s resources, and Hale hopes to have Kilmarnock pair Aidan Glavin and Kian Leslie tied up on extended loan deals until the rest of the season.

He will also look to bring in at least one other loan deal later in the month.

City continue to be without injured defenders Matthew Cooper, Ross Draper, Jake Dolzanski and Jack Murray along with midfielders Rory MacEwan and Ryan MacLeman.

Several others are carrying knocks and keeper Tom McHale only just returned to bench duty after a long spell out with an ankle ligament injury.

“We're working with a tight squad but you can see that the players are sticking together,” Hale said.

“We'll focus on the next game now. We've got so much admiration for Spartans, their staff, their players, the way that they play. It's a really difficult team to play against.

“It's going to be a patch-up side again. If we can put in the same level of performance and get the same crowd and the same atmosphere, then hopefully we can start the new year with a victory.”

With temperatures in Moray dipping below zero on Friday night, football is not guaranteed but City will hope that Borough Briggs escapes the worst of winter and is playable.
