PRESSURE did not pay off in the end for Buckie Rovers as they fell at home 3-2 to Sunnybank.

The Merson Park men returned to action after their game the previous Saturday away to Aberdeen university fell victim to the frost.

Christmas may not be that far away but there was little festive spirit from the visitors, who raced to a 2-0 lead by the interval.

A half-time talk from Rovers’ management team of Kyle Mackay and Daz Stewart gave the team renewed impetus and had the desired effect when Mike Campbell headed the hosts back into the game before a typical striker’s goal from Brodie Christie levelled matters. However, a controversial goal saw Sunnyback snatch all three points.

Mackay said: “It was one of those games of two halves, really.

“When we got to 2-2 we were going out to win it and were pressuring their goal.

“I feel their goal was a bit dubious with a handball involved but nothing was given. We deserved something from the game but we’re just not getting the rub of the green at the moment.

"We have to start making our own luck.”

Mackay went on to thank Cullen FC's Craig Ferguson for standing in between the sticks with Rovers left bereft of a keeper for the game due to a combination of circumstances.

The result leaves Rovers second bottom, making Saturday's trip to third bottom Dufftown a vital clash before the festive season break. Kick-off is 1.30pm.
