DEVERONVALE boss Steve Dolan was delighted with his players despite a 1-0 defeat at home to Buckie Thistle on Wednesday night.

Dolan had branded Saturday's 4-0 mauling at Rothes as the worst in three years.

However, his team bounced back with a fine performance against the Jags in the Fisher Derby, and the only thing missing was a little luck and ruthlessness in front of goal.

"I think we deserved the three points let alone one. Buckie scored a goal after three minutes from a corner which was poor defending," he said.

"We dominated pretty much from start to finish and I thought the players were outstanding.

"There was a big gap between Saturday and last night. I told the boys they can't let that standard drop."

Lee Herbert was a busy man in the Buckie goal and Ross Aitken also hit the bar in the second half.

Dolan is hoping the performance will give his players a boost ahead of two really tough games.

"We have Brora at home on Saturday and then Spartans away in the cup, so it doesn't get any easier," he admitted.
