Buckie Rovers seal WJ Tewnion Memorial Trophy to win treble in debut Moray Welfare season after dropping out of junior football

Buckie Rovers won the WJ Tewnion Memorial Trophy to seal a sensational treble in their first season in the welfare system since returning to football.

Rovers, who joined the welfare set-up this season after dropping out of junior football in 2020, defeated Cullen 3-0 in front of a crowd in the hundreds at Borough Briggs on Friday night.

The Tewnion Memorial Trophy adds to the Premier Division - which Buckie won with 14 wins from 17 - and the Mike Simpson Memorial Trophy, which they defeated Aberlour Villa 1-0 to win at Lossiemouth’s Grant Park.

Cullen - who were First Division champions - provided stiff opposition for Rovers, with the game locked level at 0-0 until after half-time.

William Morrison had the best chance of the opening 45 minutes for Buckie, but he put wide when through on goal.

Buckie took the lead five minutes into the second period when Ross Fiske curled a low free-kick into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

The lead was doubled when man-of-the-match Owen Morrison scored from the edge of box.
