Cricket season future uncertain as Buckie reaffirm stance

THE way ahead for the remainder of the north cricket season is still in flux, it has emerged.
With clubs recently given the go ahead to resume very limited training by the Scottish Government and Cricket Scotland, the North of Scotland Cricket Association (Nosca) met yesterday (Tuesday) to discuss the latest developments.
However, for Buckie Cricket Club, nothing has emerged to alter the stance they set out in April – write this season off and start preparing for 2021.
Buckie president Andy Ballantyne said: "As far as Buckie is concerned nothing has changed from our original statement.
"Many of the clubs at the meeting seemed to be keen to consider ways of getting some games in the remainder of the season.
"Personally, I think that they are perhaps beginning to realise what a mammoth task it's going to be to get up and playing in the sort of timescales we're looking at. I don't believe it's going to be really worthwhile until lockdown moves into Phase 4 and, to be honest, if I were Cricket Scotland I would just have left it until then.
"For me the focus should have been on getting the top level of the sport sorted rather than focusing on the amateur side."
Nosca are due to meet again on August 4 in what may well turn out to be an EGM at which any firm proposals for a limited restart to the season would have to be thrashed out.
