Huntly Football Club condemn incident at Christie Park after pyrotechnic is thrown onto pitch during Highland League match against Wick Academy
A Highland League football club has condemned a fan who threw a smoke canister on the pitch at the weekend.
Huntly said it was “unacceptable” for a pyrotechnic to appear on the park during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Wick Academy.
The Aberdeenshire club says it is investigating the incident, where an item was hurled from the terracing at their Christie Park ground.
No-one was hurt as a result of the pyro incident but Huntly have warned supporters that action will be taken against anyone flouting the laws.
The club lost for the first time this season after a very positive start, with Wick scoring a winning goal in the final minute.
“We sincerely appreciate the tremendous support shown today, even though the result was disappointing,” said a Huntly statement.
“Unfortunately, we encountered a troubling incident involving a dangerous object being thrown onto the pitch, which fortunately did not harm any players or supporters.
“We would like to emphasise that our club has a strict policy against throwing objects onto the field, and such behaviour is completely unacceptable.
“We are investigating this situation further, and those responsible will face appropriate consequences from both the club and the authorities.
“We kindly remind everyone attending matches at Christie Park that the use of pyrotechnics is strictly prohibited and indeed at all Scottish football grounds.
“Carrying or using pyrotechnics is not only illegal but also endangers the safety and enjoyment of fellow fans and players.”
