COLONY Park boss Richard Davidson couldn't make up his mind if it was a point gained or two dropped after being held at Ellon United.

The Inverurie side found themselves 2-0 down at the interval before quickfire strikes from Andy Mitchell and Kyle Gordon gave them a share of the spoils, despite passing up a number of opportunities including a missed penalty.

And Davidson hinted Ellon's show of fight may have taken his players by surprise: "We went into the game fully expecting to boss it and win", he said.

"But after seeing the way it unfolded, realistically I think we would have been happy to settle for a draw at half-time.

"We did have chances - Craig Gill and Andy Mitchell had good openings and Stuart McKay missed a penalty too - so we could have put it to bed.

"Our away form hasn't been fantastic so we've got to see it as an important point against a good Ellon team who are fighting away for everything they can get."

On a heavy surface with a swirling wind, the hosts took the lead after just seven minutes when a bll into the box wasn't cleared for Dean McDonald to fire home.

Colony, who had Martin Crisp in the line-up after joining from Maud, struggled to create much of note and looked somewhat disjointed.

They found themselves further behind on 37 minutes when an Ellon midfielder was unchallenged as he headed a goal kick back across the Colony goal, leaving space for a cross in towards McDonald who grabbed his second from close in.

A half-time grilling had the visitors upping the ante and Stuart McKay was tripped inside the area, but after assuming responsibility of the penalty himself, Ellon keeper Simon Kirton guessed correctly to produce a good stop.

Mitchell was soon introduced to the fray and got one back with his first touch, sweeping home from a free-kick.

And just three minutes later Colony were level when Gordon ran onto a through ball and lobbed the advancing keeper.

Gill found himself through on goal almost straight from kick-off but was thwarted by Kirton, before a Mitchell chance had a similar fate,

They thought they had won the game four minutes into added time when Gordon forced Kirton into another save with the ball breaking invitingly for McKay, but again the Ellon shotstopper somehow got a hand to it to divert it for a corner.

This weekend Colony visit Maud who a marooned to the bottom with just a single league win to their name and Davidson added: "It comes down to how we approach the game.

"Last Saturday we were well aware of what the opposition had coming out of the dressing room and this game will be no different.

"Maud will probably see us as an opportunity to get three points but we need to be mentally strong and make sure we get the job done ourselves."
